About Eleftherios Venizelos Passport Control

Athens Eleftherios Venizelos Airport (ATH) is Greece's busiest airport and the primary entry point for millions of UK and US summer visitors to the islands and mainland. EES biometric checks apply to all non-EU arrivals in Terminal A (non-Schengen hall). Greece is one of the most-watched airports for EES queue times due to the sheer volume of leisure travel concentrated into the June–September window. On morning inbound banks during peak season, reported waits can exceed 90 minutes.

Busiest periods: July and August are the absolute peak. Late June and early September are also very busy.
